When I came to Hong Kong at the end of August to study for a semester abroad, I decided to join DHC. DHC is a hockeyclub located in Happy Valley, which is an amazing location as you play hockey in the middle of all the high buildings that Hong Kong is famous for. The majority of the players are from the Netherlands and study or work in Hong Kong, but there are also a lot of internationals - so there is a fun mix of nationalities!
Playing hockey in Hong Kong was a whole new experience for me, as you play with people from different ages, cultures, and gender - boys and girls train together - which I did not have in the Netherlands! After the games and the trainings there is always an opportunity to have drinks together, which makes playing hockey even more fun. Next to the “working out” part, the Dutch is also a social club. They organise a beach BBQ at the beginning of the season, a day out on a junk boat, a Christmas dinner, there is an amazing hockey tournament which you can join and other activities. I would recommend everyone to join DHC, even if you are not from the Netherlands! It gives you the opportunity to meet some amazing people and play hockey at an incredible location. For me, it made my exchange even more fun than it was already! |
