Last Tuesday the DHC (Dutch Hockey Club) Committee gathered for their 67th AGM at the Indian Recreation Club, thank you to everyone who attended, it is great to see the club grow!
For the full report, please email us. Highlights AGM This year has been an exciting year with many social highlights. Against all expectations we managed to have four teams in the competition and attracted many good new players. We kicked the season off with the spectacular tram party through Hong Kong, joined the Octoberfest celebrations as a club, set up monthly drinks in Mokum and finished the season off with an unforgettable junk party! Special thanks to our sponsors Rabobank and Mokum and all the people who helped out with organizing this season. We are very happy to have found many club members who volunteered to make this season even better! This year’s committee will exist out of: Michael Koppert (Chairman), Alex de Haseth (Treasurer), Ali Zeeshan – (Trainer / Coach / Kids club), Liesbeth van der Zee (VP Ladies), Sarah Noonan (Marketing), Kenneth Chau (Convenor), Thomas Kluijtmans (VP men), Kelly-Ann McHugh (VP kids) and Dorus Reuwer (VP special events). The men's A team will be lead by Sjoerd Reiniers with support from Thomas Kluijtmans and Bas Fransen will be the captain for the B team. During the AGM it was agreed to increase the membership dues to HKD 2900,- per year for adults and HKD 1900,- for kids. Membership fees for half a season are 1500 for adults and $1000 for kids (correction from previous email). Students will receive a 50% discount. Membership will be waived if you help us to find a new sponsor, more information can be found below! Important please read! We are actively recruiting new players! Sarah has drafted an overview of organizations with contact details to approach. We also discussed the importance of our sponsors to ensuring we continue to be the longest standing club in Hong Kong Upcoming events (more information will be shared in due time) Start of the season BBQ | 19 August 2017 Training sessions | 29 August 2017, 5 & 12 September Team formations | 8 September First match of the season | 15 & 16 September We are also trying to organize a couple of friendly matches with other clubs during the summer and more information will be shared by the team captains. We are looking forward seeing you next season! Kind regards, The DHC Committee 2017-2018 This season the Ladies B had a tough but exciting season in the first division. Three years since the B team was set up, we made it to the first division. Every match we fought hard, especially during the matches against the Ladies A. After an eventful season, with our beloved captain Pien (Caroline Schikker) moving back to the Netherlands, exchange students coming and going, and welcoming several newcomers we ended the season with two amazing tournament: Easter 6s and the 5 a-side tournament. Together with players from the Ladies A we remained undefeated during the 5 a-side tournament and even managed to keep our goal spotless (thanks to Sarah Noonan)! This season was a hard one, but the team spirit remained!
Well done to the girls who made Top Scorers in 1st Division: Florence & Pien See you all again next year! Amélie Li “Bedankt iedereen voor een goed seizoen”
I’d personally like to thank the Dutch Hockey Club for welcoming me into the 2016-2017 Winter Hockey year. As a newbie to Hong Kong, eager to join and play hockey as soon as I arrived, there was no competition. Lisanne, Lisanne, and Marleen (this was very confusing aka De Bie and Elfring) were super efficient in responding to emails, and thus were incredibly welcoming, and were the real reasons that I signed with the Dutch within 5 days of being in Hong Kong. Having trained with two teams in my first week, both at the IRC whilst Valley was being repaired, I can only say “Thank You” to Ali, who made the most of what was a horrible surface (and size) to prepare training drills for our Dutch women and men to make the most of what we had in the beginning of the season. Cheers Ali for your training sessions and strategy, we look forward to another season with you to improve further. My first game in early September, not long after the season had started, I realized what Hockey in Hong Kong was going to be like, HOT. 33°, Sunny & Humid. That first game of the season for me, against Valley B, was dreadful, between the weather and the coach’s seemingly lack of sportsmanship was a shock. But the spirit we did have; we pursued throughout the season and had some fantastic and strong wins. I’d personally like to thank Marleen, the original A Captain, for seeing us through until her departure to Jakarta, to Caroline, Carito, Hannah, Amelie, Dike, Sarie, Rose (& I’m sure others!) who played superb games up for us during the season. A special call out to Dike who was actually 5th equal goal scorer of 1st Division with Flo, and the sadly missed Caroline was 4th! What a great effort by the Dutch this year! Thank you to all of our newbies who joined in the second half, Jenny (can we all learn how you can sprint that fast please, what is the secret?), Thessa (looking forward to more centre action next season!), Marina (bring on the beers & Pub Quiz nights), Sarah N (for returning from knee injury and reinitiating the kitty!). Cheers to the girls from “a million miles away” who brought some serious spirit to the season and some kick ass goal keeping! But what about the stats? This year the Dutch A, came 3rd in our division, with 8 wins and 2 draws, the second “Goals For” in the division with 30 goals in the season. In the second half, with a long departure of our skillful coach Ali, between Lisanne, Liesbeth and myself, we managed to pull together some superior wins, I believe our Defense improved and we spread the pitch like a Premier Division team. I have probably some of the worst memory, but remember when we played against HKFC C and we won 2-1 (officially), that felt like one of the best games we played all season, and then when we played against them in the second half and lost 0-2 with essentially 9 players (and three Jen’s?!), we played so well as a team! In 17-18, we should definitely add MVP per match & “Fines” (if you don’t know what this is, I’m sure Sarah can explain! I’m not really sure how I ended up as team captain after Marleen left, but it was my pleasure to manage such a fun, sociable team. I hope that many of you will return in 17-18 for another season kicking ass in the first division, and enjoying the social aspect of our club. I look forward to seeing many of you back for the next season, and thank you to all of those who played / filled in for us last season and may be departing us in the coming months. Kelly-Ann “The Antipodean” Dutch Men’s B, playing in the 4th Division, had a good 2016-2017 season.
As usual the team had some changes: 3 players left or had long term injuries and 2 players were added. At the end of the season another player joined so overall the team was stable where it comes to total number (18). Same applies to the quality, new joiners had different levels of experience so all-in-all the level remained the same. The team has a good mix of seasoned and young players. The turnout was good, most of the games the team had enough players on the pitch. In some occasions additional players had to be sought, mainly as a result of long holiday weekends or due to the maintenance of the HV pitches which resulted in games being scheduled on weekdays. The results improved vs last season: men's B finished the first part of the season well at the 6th position in the ranking, out of 12, thereby qualifying for the play-offs. The play-offs brought another 4 points adding up to a total of 22 points (7 victories, 1 draw) and an overall 6th position, a good achievement. The team has a good atmosphere evidenced by a high turnout at socials, e.g. drinks at Mokum. For next season we have one leaver and a possible transfer of one player to the A's. Bas Fransen will take over the captain role. Congrats to Bertrand who hit the top scorers list in the 2nd round. See you next season for more social fun. John Sprengelmeijer DHC Men’s A
Another great season with many Social highlights. A special congrats to Koene as the 2nd top goal scorer in the second half of the season, and Diego who also scored 2 goals and made the table! Unfortunately the team had a limited number of players due to transitions and holidays in the first half of the season, but with a great pick up in the second half. We did catch up a little bit, but it was little too late. Together with three other teams we had to play playoffs for relegation. We didn’t make it through, but to finish on a positive note: the association decided to keep us in the first division! Many of our games were close, especially against HKFC D, KCC B, HKCC, Aquila, Rhino, SSSC, Dragons. Our toughest competitor was definitely Valley, not surprising with one of their players scoring 16 goals in the season (not all against us)! This is a great motivation for the players to work hard next year! We are actively recruiting players at the moment, new people to Hong Kong, friends from friends, and we are making ourselves known at the University to attract some students. We kept our reputation up this year as cupfighters, we stranded in the quarter finals this year. There were plenty of social highlights this year. Monthly drinking sessions in our sponsor Bar Mokum. A well organized junk boat. And plenty of The Dansant. We are looking forward to next season, and with a little bit more manpower, we will be in the top 3 of the league again. And we will be back as crowd favorites ;) If you are interested in having more game time in 2017-2018, rather than being on the bench, then please consider the Dutch Men's A in 2017-2018 season. Send through your queries on our Contact Us form. See you next year: Thomas Kluijtmans A special thanks to our sponsors Rabobank and Mokum for their support during the 2017 season. Their contributions help the whole club to stay attractive for all players including kids, students and adults.
This year we had much support from our members, which made it possible that all other members only had to show up to a training or match to enjoy a good game of hockey and a refreshing drink afterwards. Please keep showing your appreciation by buying drinks for these legends when you see them next time: Wolter Meindertsma – Chairman Ali Zeeshan – Trainer / Coach / Kids club Lisanne Elfring – VP Ladies Lisanne de Bie – Convenor Liesbeth van der Zee- taking over many different tasks from others who left halfway through the season Caroline Schikker - Marketing Kenneth Chau – Convenor Treasurer – Michael Koppert The captains: Michael Koppert (captain mens A team) John Sprengelmeijer (captain mens B team), Kelly Ann McHugh (captain Ladies A team) and Amélie Li Yim (captain ladies B team). And of course all members who helped to make this another fun and successful season. The 2017 AGM will be held at the IRC on Wednesday 21st June 2017, RSVP is required for meal.
